Dear Madam:
The Presidium of the Executive Committee of the Association of Library
and
Information Professionals of the Czech Republic have acquainted themselves
with the reports on repression of the persons in Cuba that developed
librarian activities independent of official library structures.
The Association of Library and Information Professionals of the Czech
Republic stands for the universal effectivity of the Article 19 of the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights appealing for the right of people
in
every country to "seek, receive and impart information and ideas
through any
media and regardless of frontiers".
This principle should become reality in Cuba as well.
We, together with other members of international public, ask the Government
of Cuba to set free the following persons, jailed for their librarian
activities, in accordance with the said Universal Declaration of Human
Rights provision:
